Greenville Family Partnership Offers the “TransParenting” Parenting Program

Children of divorce are often subjected to the hostility parents feel toward each other. They get caught in a stressful and emotionally charged environment and are often used to communicate differences between parents. To lessen the negative effects of divorce on kids, parents need to take them out of the middle and stress that they are not the cause of the situation and are loved by both mother and father. Parents need to realize that while their relationship did not work out, they will always be parents to the same child(ren) and children need both parents.

“TransParenting” is a seminar that helps parents take steps toward communicating effectively with ex-spouses in regards to children. While the program’s primary objective is to help children of divorce, the court system receives some other benefits as well, such as a potential drop in re-litigation.

The seminar consists of one four-hour session on a Saturday, or two two-hour sessions once a month in the evening. The cost of the program is $50.00 per person, including materials.

“TransParenting” is national program operating in 40 states and 200 jurisdictions. It is nationally recognized by courts and attorneys. 96% of family court judges surveyed state that it “serves to lessen the negative effects of divorce on children”. The seminar was designed by “Families First” to assist parents with concerns about the impact of divorce on children. It was piloted in 1988.  More than one million parents have successfully completed the seminar since that time.

Greenville Family Partnership (GFP) has added “TransParenting” to the other successful parenting classes it provides at its location - 200 Mills Avenue in Greenville, SC. GFP is licensed to facilitate “TransParenting”, bringing a resource to parents who are being served by the court system.

If you would like more information on this program or to register for the classes, please contact Lynn Hooper at lynn@gfpdrugfree.org or 467-4099. We look forward to hearing from you in the future.
